This was an amazing stop for our family from the views to the rangers! First the rangers were so nice and informative. The drive to the top was well paved and clear from ice and snow. Do watch out for deer driving they are everywhere. Some of the trails did have ice and spikes would be advised.
We can not wait to visit again.

I had never heard of this park but I saw a sign for it as I was driving through NM and made it my stop for the afternoon. It’s a great way to spend 1/2 a day. You can walk down into the crater as well as around it. There are also a couple other hikes in the park.

There were not many people there in mid-October and the weather was nice.

My husband & I were driving from Denver, CO to Amarillo, TX and saw this National Park along the way. We were sure glad we stopped. Nice visitor center to check out and a paved road to the top of the volcano. You can walk along the rim which takes about an hour, or you can walk down into the cone which is about 1/2 hr round trip. Excellent views from the top!

What an amazing find! The air was so clean on top, and it is so quiet/serene. The road up has spots of ice right now, and there no guard rail, so be safe. Absolutely beautiful!

Friendly staff at visitor center. Parking is available for trailers and big rigs too. The drive up the volcano is a little scary, but the view is amazing! At the top, you can walk down into the center, and hike around the rim. The views are so beautiful. The trails are paved with some breakage. It is a lot of uphill and down. But we walked it all with kids and adults. It is a neat experience .

First day of February and I had the top of the volcano to myself. Road up it gets plowed and is fine for non AWD or 4WD. I recommend taking shoe spikes or hiking poles to help with ice snow on trail around top and down into crater.mime saved me from 1 or 2 slips, though 60% trail is clear and when not you can go off trail to grass rocks for more sturdy walking. Th3 view at the top is great to park in front of and eat a lunch or snack. The movie at Visitor center is good, especially beginning.

It was a very beautiful place, the drive up to the volcano to view and hike was spectacular. If you want to do the hike to the top of the volcano you need to be in pretty good shape because it's kind of strenuous. We hiked part way up and took pictures and it was still worth it. $20 per car fee unless you have your national park pass which gets you in for free. You can take your dog as far as the parking lot but you cannot take your dog on the trail.

Very nice rangers and pretty views. We couldn’t hike because of the snow but they did a great job clearing the road and the parking lot. The snow looked so pretty.
